Favorite Garden Tools
Hey there! These are my absolutely favorite everyday garden tools and essentials that make gardening way easier for me. I wish I had known about some of these tools when I was just starting out but I’m so glad to be sharing them with you now. Grab your garden gloves and go!
1. Harvest basket – this is my favorite harvest basket (and I have a good little collection going)! What I love about this basket is that it’s made of high quality material, you can easily clean and wash your harvest directly in the basket before bringing it indoors, the colander side has drainage holes for that purpose. It’s a good size and holds a lot of garden goodies (more thank you’d think). Friends who have bought this basket after seeing mine would agree that it’s super helpful and a garden essential.
2. Diatomaceous Earth – every summer we have some sort of pest issue. This summer we found earwigs inside the house (IYKYK)! This is a food grade natural powder that kills crawling pests. My husband sprinkled it around the parameters of our house and it worked really well. I love that it’s safe around children and pets. It’s a good bug repellent for an organic garden.
3. Mosquito Patch Stickers – we used these stickers on our four year old, when out in the parks or in our yard after dusk in the summer. It helps repel mosquitos. I love that the repellant doesn’t come into contact with the children’s skin, you just have to stick it onto their clothes. It’s that easy!
4. Pruning Snips – my go to snippers for harvesting and pruning plants. Backed by lifetime warranty, it’s a sweet deal!
5. Velcro Ties – these are my favorite ties when I’m training indeterminate tomatoes, or propping up any vining plants in the garden such as cucumbers. It’s great quality and sturdy, so easy to use since it’s made out of velcro, so no having to tie knots. I also love that its reusable season after season.
6. Garden Tool Organizer Pouch – I don’t know what I would do without this pouch as a mama gardener! I’m usually holding multiple things all at once every time I’m out in the garden (or anywhere for that matter), which makes it difficult to prune or harvest. With this organizer pouch, I get to have the baby monitor, snippers, velcro ties, my phone and anything else I need within hands reach. It’s super convenient.
7. Reusable Outdoor Fly Traps – ugh those pesky flies hovering over the trash cans in the yard are super annoying if you know what I mean! So I love this non toxic reusable fly trap that you simply just leave on the ground and it lures them in. It’s working out very well I should say!
8. Solar Bird Bath Fountain Pump – we love this solar powered water fountain, we use this on top of our bird bath. It’s a great DIY hack to an expensive fountain.
9. Green Birdbath with Planter Pedestal – we use this birdbath with our solar bird bath fountain pump and just love the serene vibes it gives off. Also, it’s so sweet watching the birds land on this on a hot summer day.
10. BT Spray – this is a must have if you’re growing cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. This spray is approved for organic gardening and it kills worms and caterpillar stage insects while causing no harm to beneficial insects. I keep this handy for when cabbage loopers get out of control!
11. Sun Shade Sail – every gardener needs a break, I love taking my harvest over to my patio and sorting under this shady sail. Or gathering with family and friends over a cookout in the yard. It provides a nice shade and offers a cool place to chill.
12. Sun Shade Hardware – if you’re buying the shade sail you’ll want to grab this hardware kit as well.
13. Self-Adhesive Seed envelopes – if you’re like me and love spreading the joy of gardening by sharing seeds then you’ll want to grab these mini envelopes to put your precious seeds in for gifting. Hint makes a lovely holiday present!
14. Waterproof Seedling Heat Mat – these heating pads maintain the perfect temperature for seeds and seedlings. It’s my go to when I start seeds in the winter.
15. Neptune’s Harvest Fish Fertilizer – “Neptune’s Harvest is an organic fertilizer made from fresh north Atlantic fish.” When my plants need a little extra boost, this is my go to fertilizer in the growing season.
16. Lightweight Expandable Garden Hose – we’ve had many garden hose that quickly turn into a big pile of mess. We love this one because the material is very flexible, the hose expands as it fills with water and retracts to its compact size when it’s empty. How cool is that?
17. Seeding Square – if you’re new to the square foot gardening method or want to sow seeds with precision I don’t blame you, this handy seeding square will help you do just that!
18. Three Piece Kids Garden Tools – our toddler had these garden tools and she just loved using them in her raised bed garden.
19. Murphy’s Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Insect Repellent – being that I’m an aromatherapist, plant-based skincare formulator, I feel good about using this bug spray on myself and my family. It’s made with essentials oils and it works! It goes really well with the candle for those summer evening harvests and hang out sessions in the yard.
20. Murphy’s Natural Mosquito Repellant Candle – lazy long summer nights are those magical moments that we live for. Grilling up fresh veggies right off the plant, kids running around after bubbles, the laughter and chatter of friends and family. But let’s be real, how long will we last if there are no mosquito repellants, that’s when I light up this candle and leave it on our outdoor dining table or set it aside by the potting bench.
21. Cedar Raised Bed 4×8 – this is about the size of my first raised bed garden. It was a great place to start and test out. I love that this one is made in the USA and its made with North American Cedar.
I’ll keep this post up to date with the latest and the most helpful garden tools. Come back soon!
